I Knew My Future Mother-in-Law Didn’t Like Me — But I Never Imagined What She Was Planning Against Me

Falling in love felt perfect — until Dean’s family turned my life upside down. His mother didn’t think I was good enough and made it her mission to prove it. Secrets, lies, and a brutal test of trust pushed me to my limit. In the end, I had to decide if love was strong enough to overcome everything against us.

If I had known what my future mother-in-law would be like, I would have asked Dean to introduce us only at the wedding. At least then I might have been prepared for her icy glares and sharp comments.

But life doesn’t work that way. I met Martha long before Dean and I got engaged.

Saying she hated me would be an understatement. She saw me as completely unworthy of her son. I was nothing like his ex-wife, Kate.

Dean had been married before. He and Kate divorced after she cheated on him with his cousin — who also happened to be his best friend. It was a painful mess, but thankfully there were no children involved.

What bothered me most was that Martha still stayed in touch with Kate, despite everything that happened. That alone made me question where I stood.

Still, I was lucky with Dean. He was the kindest, most patient, and fiercely loyal man I had ever met. He loved me deeply and supported me in every way. That was what mattered most.

One evening, we had a rare date night planned — a cozy dinner at a nice restaurant followed by a movie. We had both been so busy that it felt long overdue. As I was putting on my earrings, a loud knock at the door interrupted us.

“I’ll get it,” I called to Dean and headed to the door. When I opened it, there stood Martha. Her piercing eyes scanned me up and down.

“Oh, where are you all dressed up for?” she asked with a sharp edge. No hello, no smile. Then she twisted the knife: “Off to seduce someone else’s husband?”

I took a deep breath and stayed calm. “Dean and I are going on a date. Was there something you needed?”

“I just wanted to have dinner with my son,” she said, crossing her arms. “Is that so unreasonable?”

“We already have plans for tonight,” I replied firmly.

“Plans can be changed. A mother is more important than any plan. You should know that if you were a proper daughter-in-law. Kate always made time for me,” Martha said, her voice growing louder.

I looked away, too drained to argue. Dean came out and frowned when he saw her. “Mom, why didn’t you call first? We already have plans.”

Martha ignored him and sweetly said she hadn’t seen him in so long. When Dean reminded her he had visited just last week, she exploded, blaming me for turning him against her.

“You’ll pay for this!” she hissed at me before storming out and slamming the door.

A few days later, while I was home sorting through wedding plans, the doorbell rang again. I opened it to find Martha standing there. She brushed past me without a word and walked straight into the house.

“Why are you here?” I asked. “Dean went to see you after work.”

Martha smirked. “It just so happened that Kate dropped by for tea, so I left them alone. They deserve a second chance.”

Her words hit me like a slap. She openly admitted she was trying to push Dean back together with Kate, claiming I wasn’t right for him.

I reminded her that Kate had cheated on Dean with his own cousin. Martha just waved it off, saying people make mistakes.

I’d had enough. I tried to call Dean, but Martha smugly told me she had taken his phone. When I threatened to call the police, she snatched my phone and ended the call. I pushed past her and left.

I drove to Martha’s house but hesitated at the door. Instead, I quietly approached the living room window. Inside, I saw Dean and Kate standing face to face. Kate was crying and suddenly leaned in to kiss him.

My heart dropped — but Dean immediately pushed her away, wiped his lips in disgust, and stormed out.

He spotted me by the car and pulled me into a tight hug. “They set this all up. I didn’t want to see Kate,” he said firmly. “I only want you.”

Relieved, we drove back to our place together. When we walked in holding hands, Martha’s face twisted with shock and anger.

Dean told her he had enough of her interference. “Alice is my family now. You can’t accept that, so we’re done.”

Martha screamed and blamed me, but Dean stood firm and asked her to leave. She stormed out, slamming the door behind her.

“Are you sure this was the right decision?” I asked softly.

“When it comes to you and our future, I have no doubts,” Dean replied.

In that moment, I knew our love was stronger than any outside interference. We would build our life together — with or without his mother’s blessing.
